Feast of St. Francis of Assisi »

October 4th is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi.  Beyond the “talking to the animals” reputation, Saint Francis sparked a movement of men and women that continues over 800 years later.  Franciscans take all different shapes, sizes, colors, and ministries.  Some live alone, most in community, but all in the charism of St. [...]

Time to Serve! »

It is a rainy Sunday here in the DC area, a rainy weekend to be exact. I am ok with that, I like the rain – and since it is basically keeping me indoors for much of the day I am taking this opportunity to move some furniture around the house and repurpose some [...]

Capital Pride »

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…let your pride show!  Yesterday was the Pride Parade and today is the festival – time to put on the sunscreen and get out of the house for a day of pride and celebration!

My Babies Are Gone… »

Well, not as much babies as they were headaches.  Yes, the 8th grade graduation took place yesterday afternoon at the University of the District of Columbia.  Here were some highlights that made me very uncomfortable and actually angry as I sat on the stage:

Memorial Day »

With an eventful weekend behind us, Memorial Day itself is already starting out as a reflective and relaxing day to ease me back into the work week.  I just finished a cup of coffee after sharing homemade waffles with LC in the dining room.  As he folds laundry (both mine and his!) we have HGTV [...]

The weather was very cooperative, not too sunny and not [...]

Memorial Day Weekend! »

Yay!  Three days of fun, right?  Memorial Day weekend is here, beaches are open, and today begins the official “pool season” for most public pools.  The temperatures are rising and the skies are clear.  I am excited about the things we have planned for this weekend!
Today we are going to do some shopping, and we [...]

The Morning After »

Ah, yes.  There are lots of leftovers in the fridge and the third load of dishes has just finished in the dishwasher. Last night was wonderful.  Our guests began to arrive at 3:30 and our menu was as follows:
Appetizers
Crostini with diced tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and fresh basil
Stuffed mushrooms
Deviled….er, resurrection-themed eggs
Entrees
Baked Ham with a honey [...]

Happy Easter! »

From my home to yours, wishing you a very special Easter Celebration, whatever form that may take!  Here in Cheverly, the table is set and desserts are made.  Glasses are prepped for the wine that will be poured and the last of the flowers have been planted and watered.
One of my favorite stories from David [...]
