Just Another Manic Monday

Wish it was Sunday, cause that’s my fun day!  Remember that song?  It just happened to pop into my head as I started to type this blog entry’s title so I stuck with it!

Our weekend journey began on Friday when T and I went into DC to see The History Boys which had been extended through the weekend.  I’m glad T got to see it as I really enjoyed it when I viewed it opening weekend in April and did not hesitate to see it again.  We had great seats despite a rude cell phone ringing in the pocket of a guy sitting next to T and a chronic foot tapper behind us.  But I won’t complain – it was a nice night!  We took a stroll around Dupont afterwards and grabbed a ‘light’ meal seated outside at Dupont Italian Kitchen.

It certainly was a wonderful weekend, despite the heavy rains and large hail that fell on us during our drive on Saturday.  The weekend was eventful and filled with visits from friends and shopping.  On Saturday, T and I ventured into DC for some breakfast and some errands.  After a nice breakfast at The Diner, we stopped off at the NEW shopping center in his old neighborhood of Columbia Heights and marveled at the development that seems like it has sprung up overnight.  How do developers do that?  One day there is a simple metro stop, the next there is a fifteen story apartment building surrounded by dozens of new shops and eateries.  Amazing!  We did our part to help stimulate the DC economy and now have a fancy rice cooker, clothes steamer, and muffin baking tins to add to our collection of ’stuff.’  Afterwards, we drove to Virginia to visit with JAN and their new baby Tyler.  During the drive we were hit with heavy rains and large hail – so much so that I had to pull over and wait under a tree for fear the hail would damage our new jeep…yes, it was that heavy!

Sharing some pizza with JAN, we were able to catch up on things and have some fun and laughs.  T finally got a chance to see baby Tyler since the baby’s birth and amaze us with what he learned about baby potty training in China…let’s just say they don’t wear diapers as babies and are well advanced in the practice of bowel movements.  Quite fascinating  Making our way home, we ended up falling asleep on the couch…um, I ended up falling asleep on the couch and that is all I can remember.  Later, T would tell me that I randomly awoke from my sleep, would ask him a question, and then immediately go right back to sleep.  Hmmm….interesting!

Sunday, after five hours in Ikea shopping for the office we are redesigning in the house, we met up with HAM at Les Halles in DC.  Located near the White House, Les Halles is a wonderful French restaurant where we enjoyed our meals in the open air.  I ordered the swordfish which was flavorful and rich as it was covered in a sundried tomato mixture complete with olives and capers.  I love capers when they are used just right!  A late night stroll around the White House (no protesting, just walking!) and a brief encounter with the Secret Service when our walking route was redirected, the evening ended quietly as we parted ways and planned for another meet – maybe over tennis next time?

Again, seated on the couch around 10:30pm, we both awoke around 1:30am this morning and don’t remember any more than that.  Making our way to bed, the alarm rang a few hours after falling back to sleep and now I sit here in what will soon be a redesigned office thinking about the last few days and how wonderful they were to be spent with good friends, good food, and good times together.

A new week begins!
