Overload

That is what you have to do with carbohydrates the day before a marathon. And so we did. We woke up this morning rather late and started off with a hearty breakfast of beef tapa, garlic rice, scrambled eggs and fried sweet potato sticks. Yum!
Making our way downtown to the Boston seaport, we picked up our running packets that included our numbers, a t-shirt, and the timing chip that we need to secure to our sneaker lace as we run so we can be properly timed. A less than satisfying trip around the sparse displays, we took a long walk to Fenuil Hall, a tourist trap of all tourist traps. There you can take walking tours of the Freedom Trail, buy Boston t-shirts, shot glasses and mugs, and even eat the the famous Cheers bar and grill, the namesake of the television show from the late 1980’s. Here, T bought a pair of Crocs, but not your ordinary kind, a kind that looks like a pair of causal loafers. Very nice. He actually wore them to dinner this evening while we feasted on pasta and bread of all sorts!
After the croc purchase, we continued our walking journey to the fashion district where we stopped for some tea and then went into the newly opened Apple store, the largest one yet! I bought a cable so we can connect the iPod to the car’s radio system and play tunes that way instead of relying on my poor cd collection or T having to make a mix every time we decide to drive somewhere.
Realizing we had not eaten since earlier that morning and by the time shopping was done it was almost evening, we took the subway back to Cambridge where a much-needed hour nap was taken. Nice! After slowing rising from that nap, we walked over to the Italian restaurant and proceeded to feast of anything that was bread…dinner rolls, bruchetta, a focaccia appetizer, pasta, and even tiramisu. Yes, tiramisu has cake in it which is a carb….how is that for a stretch! Anything in the name of marathon training…we are serious about it, you know!
Now, back at the apartment, I sit on the bed as T gets his stuff together for tomorrow’s race. My stuff is already prepped and ready to go and 12-hours from now we will almost be done with the race. Wish us luck!
