I’ve Got Rhythm…

Prom. Need I say more? Tonight was the annual junior/senior prom for my school and I had the wonderful joy (and obligation!) to chaperone the festivities. The night was special for our students and we celebrated at a local golf club that was a beautiful setting for the festivities. There was lots of dancing (none by me…or was there?!?) and what appeared to be some physical connections on the dance floor that needed some chaperone intervention. Am I being a prude? Nah, just trying to make sure that our kids were behaving. I missed using the famous Catholic School dance floor mantra said by adults for decades: “Leave room for the Holy Spirit.”

I did get a chance to debut my bow tie. That is an entirely different entry, for sure! This week I was able to go shopping in Cambridge for a bow tie. A real one…no clip or snaps. After a long deliberation, I was able to decide on a new bow tie and quickly got a lesson on how to tie it from the salesperson. Back at the studio, T and I looked at a number of YouTube videos explaining how to properly tie the bow tie. Multiple attempts and increasing frustration brought about what was an ‘ok’ knot and that was tied on me by T. Could I be left on my own to tie a proper knot? Today I did! After two tries, I had it and I owe the ease to a YouTube video I found this afternoon.
I think I started a trend, though. This evening the superintendent challenged all male principals and directors to wear a bow tie to the next regional meeting in June. Let’s see how many are able to pull it off! I think I have the advantage this time!
